Luke and I are doing what we can on an individual basis as far as contacting stores and distributors, but we don't have time to do it all. While we're not sorry about losing out on money, it's not cool to be used and manipulated by crooks to fool the buying public. We have tracked down the original source, and they are supplying distributors who are only too happy to stock [Brainfreeze] as long as someone, ANYONE tells them, "Sure, it's legit." Some stores don't seem to really care about legitimacy.
The stores we've had time to contact have been really cool about it, namely Other Music, Fat Beats, Aquarius, etc. and have agreed to spread the word. One thing we hear a lot from stores is, "If they (Luke or myself) call us, we'll stop stocking it." I guess they're assuming, rightly so, that we probably won't have time to call every store on a case-by-case basis.
Luke and I have learned a big lesson from all of this. As the bootlegger in LA said, "If you don't want to get bootlegged, you should tell your 'artists' to make their music more available." Hopefully, if we do another one, we'll heed that advice. In the meantime, again, we're happy that people are enjoying it, and we feel more than compensated for our time, but we don't want to see any more people taken advantage of. The more the word spreads, and the more everyone boycotts the boots, the less likely it is that the crooks will have a market to sell to.
