Yesterday, December 3,
2000, I saw the Solesides
reunion tour in Amsterdam. First, I have to say that I have to smack myself
because I didn't recognize Chief Xcel and Lateef an hour before the show. Both
just walked pass me to get outside to the Tour-Bus. Later on, I saw Lyrics Born
as well, but he wasn't that close.. Shadow (visiting The Netherlands for the first time in 5 years) began the show
with a 10mins hiphop set, that was quite similar to the set he did for the Solid
Steel radioshow. Damn, damn good. Then, the real Solesides show started. It had the same beginning as the Solesides performance that you can
find in the Quannum section of this site. Man, they fucking rocked the damn
place!!! Lyrics Born is so cool. He has to be my favorite of the night...Shadow
did a damn good job. Ah, fuck it. They all were shit hot. I don't really have
much more to say, besides it was so cool. After the show, DJ Shadow and Chief
XCel announced new Quannum releases. A new Maroons (Lateef & Chief
XCel) album will be released spring 2001 as well as the solo album of Lyrics
Born with a live band (Poets of Rhythm??). They also mentioned that
Blackalicious is working on a new album. And of course, Shadow's solo joint will
be out in 2001. If the guys come to a place near you, go and see them.
This Monday, December 4, 2000,
in anticipation of Solesides greatest bumps twisting into London, Coldcut have
broken the Solid Mix Mold and will feature a half hour innerview with the crew.
There's even a special mix by Andy Votel, who someone told us might be the next
badly drawn thing. Solid mixes have been prepared using the finest organic
ingredients, lovingly presented and served with impeccable style. You can listen
to the show in 3 ways: LIVE ON THE RADIO - BBC London Live 94.9FM, Monday,
Midnight to 2AM UK Time - LIVE ON THE WEB - BBC
